The Chemistry IT Shop staff are currently in the process of migrating all department e-mail
users to a new e-mail server. This page provides status and migration notes as well as
e-mail client configuration changes that may be necessary.
Current Status -- Thursday, January 31th, 2008
- All user e-mail accounts, maillists, and aliases have been moved
- All incoming e-mail is now being delivered directly to the new mail server
- Hostnames such as 'www', 'mailey', 'mail', 'imap', etc are now resolving to the new mail server

Summary of E-mail Client Settings
For most users the only change required will be redefining the incoming e-mail server
defined for POP or IMAP to be "mda.chem.ufl.edu".
Here is the list of general mail settings:
POP Server Name: mda.chem.ufl.edu IMAP Server Name: mda.chem.ufl.edu Outgoing (SMTP) Server: smtp.chem.ufl.edu
Once your account has been moved to the new e-mail server you will need to change your
Thunderbird e-mail client settings to reflect the new server name. To get to those
settings choose 'Account Settings' from the 'Tools' menu then click the 'Server Settings'
option.
For POP users you will see a window like this, note the change to the 'Server Name' field.

For IMAP users you will see a window like this, note the change to the 'Server Name' field.

Click the 'Advanced' button and note that the 'IMAP Server Directory' should be left blank.

Thunderbird IMAP Subscribe Feature
If after restarting Thunderbird, your IMAP folders do not show up in your folder list, you
may need to resubscribe to them by chosing 'Subscribe' from the 'File' menu and placing a
checkmark next to the folders you want to include.
Outlook Account Settings
Once your account has been moved to the new e-mail server you will need to change your
Outlook e-mail client settings to reflect the new server name. To get to those
settings choose 'Account Settings' from the 'Tools' menu then select your Chemistry
e-mail account and click the 'Change...' button.
For POP users you will see a window like this, note the change to the 'Incoming mail server'

Click the 'More Settings' button, then the 'Advanced' tab and note that the 'Root folder path'
should be left blank.

If after restarting Outlook, your IMAP folders do not show up in your folder list, you
may need to resubscribe to them by choosing 'IMAP Folders' from the 'Tools' menu, click the
'Query' button, then select the folders you want to subscribe to.
Eudora Account Settings
Once your account has been moved to the new e-mail server you will need to change your
Eudora e-mail server settings to reflect the new server name. To get to those
settings choose 'Options' from the 'Tools' menu then select the 'Checking Mail'
category.
You will see a window like this, note the change to the 'Mail Server' field.

Then choose the 'Incoming Mail' category and you will see a window like this. Note,
if you're using POP then 'POP' will be selected. If you're using IMAP then 'IMAP' will be
selected. IMAP users should note that the 'IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix' filed should be
left blank.

Pine Account Settings
Pine users who run Pine from the mail server can use SSH to connect to the server at
`mda.chem.ufl.edu` (telnet not allowed), login to their account, and run `pine`.
